Feb. 3: Hazard Alert Issued on Boom Extensions on Mobile Cranes
According to the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA), the sudden detachment of boom extensions (jibs) commonly found on telescopic boom mobile cranes has resulted in serious workplace injuries. The jib unexpectedly detached during its installation or stowage on the crane. To eliminate this hazard, jibs must be installed and stowed in accordance with the operator’s manual. The IHSA issued a hazard alert outlining safe work practices for this equipment.
