The MOL proposed a regulation that would require employers to ensure that all workers and supervisors complete mandatory occupational health and safety awareness training. It would apply to everyone who meets the definitions of “worker” and “supervisor” under the OHS Act and to all workplaces covered by the Act. There would be a transition period to give employers time to ensure that workers and supervisors have completed required training before the regulation comes into effect. It’s anticipated that the final regulation would be filed on or before July 1, 2013 and would take effect on Jan. 1, 2014. The consultation period ends Feb. 4, 2013.
