Dec. 12: Police to Help Protect Flaggers
In partnership with WorkSafeBC, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is going undercover to protect traffic controllers working on Vancouver streets. Between 2008 and 2012, 51 flaggers were hit and injured by motor vehicles while on the job. Nearly 60% of those collisions resulted in serious injuries; three traffic controllers were killed. VPD officers will also be stepping up enforcement around construction zones and handing out tickets for speeding and distracted or aggressive driving.
