Sept. 3: According to a national survey on tobacco use, BC has the lowest smoking rate in Canada in a number of categories, including young people. BC’s smoking rate for 2007 was 14.4%, a 2% decrease from 2006 and significantly lower than the national smoking rate of 19%. The smoking rate for residents between 15 and 19 dropped to single digits for the first time (9%). The national youth smoking rate is 15%.
