Aug. 21: BC construction unions and contractors agreed to a substance abuse testing and treatment policy for all unionized construction workers in the province. Highlights of the program, which tests for alcohol and nine common drugs, including marijuana:
- Testing of workers involved in workplace incidents or near misses or who are reasonably suspected of on-the-job impairment
- Voluntary pre-hire drug testing
- Workers who test positive will be barred from the worksite until a doctor has given the green light and will be subject to follow-up testing for up to two years.
