The provincial government and Ville de Lac-Mégantic have placed the Pomerleau firm in charge of coordinating cleanup operations at the scene of the recent explosions and fire. The government intervention plan has several stages, the first of which includes:
- Securing the Lac-Mégantic site to ensure that the area is safe for the population and workers and the ongoing recovery of crude oil.
- Characterizing the environmental issues and the work necessary to determine the nature and extent of the contamination.
- Evaluating all options aimed at restoring rail traffic.
