Aug. 8: Farmer Exposed to Methane from Manure
A farmer moving manure around the farm was exposed to methane gas, which is odourless and colourless. Officials believe he was overcome when he jumped down from his rig to help his stricken dog, which died. The farmer was hospitalized. WorkSafeBC is investigating the incident and the potential harm to workers who handle or distribute manure. Inhaling too much methane can result in suffocation due to insufficient oxygen.
