Aug. 26: Workplace Shooter May Be Entitled to Severance Pay
Kevin Addison, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder after a shooting at a sawmill, was among about 160 workers laid off from the sawmill in 2008. Most weren’t hired back when the mill reopened, setting off a labour dispute over severance. That dispute just ended with an arbitration settlement worth $1.2 million. The money will be divided between qualifying employees, but it’s too early to tell whether Addison will qualify for severance.
