On Aug. 13, Olymel’s hog processing plant closed due to an leak of ammonia from the refrigeration area. The leak’s origin was identified. The company is continuing to investigate the cause of the leak and take all necessary measures to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. The company also said that it’ll ensure that the detection systems and evacuation protocols always work optimally. The plant reopened on Aug. 19.
