At the Diavik Diamond Mine, rocks came down from the side of the open pit. But the mine’s early warning systems that monitor rock movements went off as soon as the rocks were detected. As a result, the mining company was able to get all workers out of the mine. It then monitored that area and about 10 hours later, about 5,000 tonnes of rock came down into the pit.
