April 7: Health Department Warns of MRSA Outbreak
The NWT Department of Health is warning the public that methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a strain of bacteria that’s become resistant to antibiotics, is spreading across the North. MRSA is transmitted easily from person-to-person or picked up from contaminated surfaces in crowded areas. The first symptom is often a skin infection that looks like a spider bite. Prevention is the best way to fight super bugs—that is, maintain good hygiene and regularly wash your hands.
