June 1: Death of Miner in Vehicular Accident Is under Investigation

Two workers at a placer mine were leaving the mining camp in their own vehicles along a mine access road, when the second vehicle (a van) got stuck while trying to go up a hill. The workers attached a tow rope between the two vehicles, but the rope slipped off and the van wouldn’t move. When the driver of the van got out of it, the van slipped back and its open door struck him. Then the other worker’s car suddenly rolled back and collided with the van, which struck its driver and caused fatal injuries. The Coroner’s Service, RCMP and OHS officials are investigating the incident.
