Illegal Dumping of Gasoline Costs Worker $2,500

A trucking company worker stopped at a truck stop to refuel. But he filled the truck with gasoline instead of diesel. When he realized his mistake, he spoke with a service station attendant, who gave him the name of a mechanic who could remove the gasoline from the truck in a safe and legally approved manner. Instead, he got a hose and siphoned the gasoline out of the vehicle’s fuel tanks into a drain located in the fuel pump area. He was convicted of one violation of the Environmental Protection Act for disposing of gasoline in a storm sewer that wasn’t part of an approved waste management system. The court fined him $2,500 [Sylvester George, Govt. News Release, March 21, 2012].
