Hazardous Waste Violations Result in More than $6,000 in Fines

Officers with the Ministry of Environment investigated a TIP call about improper storage of hazardous substances at a facility. They found that the facility wasn’t complying with a number of storage and documentation requirements. The facility pleaded guilty and was fined more than $6,000 for violating The Hazardous Substances and Waste Dangerous Goods Regulations by failing to:

  • Maintain required documents and inventory records of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods stored at the facility;
  • Clearly mark or label hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods stored at the facility;
  • Provide the local fire department with a list and inventory of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods; and
  • Provide the local fire department and emergency measures organization with a copy of an emergency response contingency plan [Solvent Buddy (Saskatchewan) Inc., Govt. News Release July 28, 2015].
