General Personal Protective Equipment Policy

BENEFIT

OHS laws require employers to furnish and ensure workers properly use PPE to protect them against the hazards to which they’re exposed. The OHS program should include a policy explaining how PPE is selected, the standards it must meet, and how it should be used, inspected, maintained, repaired and stored.

HOW TO USE THIS TOOL

This Model Policy is based on BC OHS rules but can be adapted to meet the PPE requirements of any jurisdiction. Note: This is a general PPE policy that doesn’t address certain types of PPE requiring their own separate policy, including hearing protection, respiratory protection and fall protection systems and equipment. Note that OHSI includes specific policies for each of these types of PPE.
