Fatal Road Work Incident Results in OHS Charges Against Three Employers

A group of workers from three employers was inspecting the road surface in response to concerns raised over asphalt pavement deterioration when there was an incident that resulted in the death of one worker and serious injuries to two others. The government just charged the three employers with multiple OHS violations, including failing to: conduct an undertaking in a manner that protects other employers’ workers; provide instruction and supervision; ensure work procedures promote the safe interaction of workers and their work environment; and ensure effective traffic control was provided [Department of Transportation and Works, City of St. John’s and Irving Oil, Govt.
