Fall of 14-Year-Old Worker Results in OHS and Employment Standards Charges

A 14-year-old boy fell nearly four meters from a residential roof. He was briefly hospitalized. As a result, the contractor has been charged with violations of both the Employment Standards Code and the OHS Act, including inappropriately employing a person under the age of 15 as well as failing to keep employment records, ensure the worker’s health and safety, train the worker in fall protection, develop a fall protection plan, and provide the worker with competent, direct supervision [Vital Contracting Ltd., Govt.
