Eye & Face Protection Policy

- PURPOSE
This standard supports the Personal Protective Equipment Policy and specifies the selection, use, inspection and care of eye and face protection at ABC Company (“The Company”).
- DEFINITIONS
Safety Glasses: Eye protection that meets the CSA Z94.3 minimum standards for lens thickness, penetration resistance and side shields. Includes “Over the Glasses” (OTG), prescription and non-prescription safety glasses.
- SELECTION
- The class of eye and face protection must meet the requirements of hazard identification and risk assessment. Refer to EXHIBIT A – Guidelines for the selection of eye and face protection. [attach chart spelling out CSA classes of eye protection and for which hazards they’re appropriate].
- All eye and face protectors must meet the requirements of CSA Standard Z94.3.
- Those with prescription glasses that are not CSA approved must wear OTG safety glasses that meet the CSA Standard.
- USE
- Eye and face protection must be worn where hazard identification and risk assessment identifies a risk of injury to the eyes and/or face.
- Other PPE or equipment must not compromise the level of protection provided.
- Goggles must be contoured to the face and fit properly.
- Goggles must be worn so that the strap rests against the back of the head and not over the back of the hard hat.
- Eye and face protection must not be modified.
- INSPECTION
Safety glasses and face protectors must be inspected for damage or defects that could decrease visibility or affect their ability to provide adequate protection.
- MAINTENANCE
- Safety glasses and face protectors must be repaired or replaced when damaged because defects can decrease visibility or affect their ability to provide adequate protection. If in doubt, safety glasses and face protectors should be replaced.
- Safety glasses and face protectors must be regularly cleaned as per manufacturer/supplier recommendations.
