Excavator Kills Construction Worker Resulting in $150,000 Fine to Constructor

During pipe laying work, the operator of a hydraulic excavator at grade had a partially obstructed view of the signaler’all he could see were the hand signals. That may have been the reason he hit the signaler, pinning him between the bucket and catch basin with fatal results. The constructor for the project was convicted of failing to ensure that the signaler was in full view of the excavator operator and fined $150,000 [Graham Bros.
