Environment Hazard Assessment Checklist

BENEFITS

To fulfill your duty to protect workers from safety hazards in the workplace, you first have to know what hazards exist so you can then implement appropriate safety measures to eliminate or minimize the risk posed by such hazards. The workplace environment itself can pose hazards to workers and others. For example, the workplace environment must be clean and orderly, and may:

  • Be subject to extreme temperatures;
  • Include excessive noise or vibration;
  • Be subject to dust, fumes and other hazards in the air; and
  • Be vulnerable to harassment or violence.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Adapt this checklist for your OHS program, workplace and the requirements in your jurisdiction’s OHS laws. Use it to assess your workplace and identify the hazards created by or present in the environment. For any hazards identified, note the appropriate actions that should be taken to address those hazards’and ensure that such action is actually taken.
