Energy Company Charged for Pipeline Spill

In Oct. 2013, a pipeline spill leaked approximately 1.8 million litres of contaminated water containing a mixture of water, salt, oil and minerals onto more than 3.8 hectares of land in a remote area of northwestern Alberta. As a result, the energy company was charged with violations of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, the Public Lands Act and the Pipeline Act [Apache Canada Ltd., Govt.
