Employer Fined $7,200 after Worker Breaks Foot in Fall from Ladder

A worker was trying to repair a light ballast from a ladder when he was distracted by a sudden noise caused by an electrical problem. He lost his balance, fell and fractured his foot. As a result, his employer pleaded guilty to two OHS violations for failing to ensure that a qualified person works on energized electrical equipment and that the power supply is de-energized, locked out and tagged before any work is performed on equipment.
