Employer Fined $1,560 for Ladder & Fall Protection Violations

An Occupational Health Officer saw two workers on a roof at a worksite in violation of OHS regulations. Their employer pleaded guilty and was fined $1,560 for three violations, including failing to ensure that:

  • Workers used a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more;
  • A ladder in use by workers was secured against accidental movement during use; and
  • A portable ladder was equipped with locks that securely held the ladder sections in its extended position [S.O.S. Electrical (1998) Ltd., Govt. News Release, Oct. 17, 2013].
