Due Diligence


Employers should be avoiding circumstances that create OHS problems or that make existing difficulties worse.  The necessary steps to avoid or minimize OHS problems can range from relatively simple steps to more complex or strategic measures.  In this webinar, a former health and safety prosecutor will discuss some of the all-too-common missteps by employers and management, their potential impact, and how to avoid them.  The discussion will address various topics including putting the best foot forward before an OHS inspection, mistakes during an OHS inspection, errors when managing workplace events, and common shortcomings in training workers.

Speaker: Jeremy Warning

Jeremy Warning is a partner in the Toronto office of Mathews, Dinsdale & Clark LLP. He is a member of the firm’s National OHS and Workers’ Compensation practice group.  Jeremy is a former health and safety prosecutor and has developed a practice with a particular emphasis on occupational health and safety and regulatory matters.  He provides proactive and strategic advice and representation following serious workplace accidents and in relation to sensitive workplace safety matters.  He is also a very experienced litigator who has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario while conducted numerous trials and appeals involving the Occupational Health and Safety ActCanada Labour Code, and other regulatory statutes.  Jeremy has also acted as counsel in a number of Coroner’s inquests.  He is a co-author of the Annotated Occupational Health and Safety Act, a leading health and safety text and is the chair of the Occupational Health and Safety Subcommittee of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers.  Jeremy is listed as a “consistently recommended” occupational health and safety lawyer inThe Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and as a leading occupational health and safety lawyer in Best Lawyers in Canada.
