Death of Worker in Fall from Ladder Costs Company $72,500

A worker was removing a garage door spring on an industrial garage door when the spring popped out of its bracket, hit him on the chest and knocked him off a ladder. He fell from a height of greater than 10′ and later died from his injuries. The company was convicted of failing, as an employer, to provide a scaffold when work couldn’t be done safety from the ground, to ensure that a worker was adequately protected by a fall protection system and to provide information, instruction and supervision to a worker to protect his health and safety.
