Dairy Farm Inspection Checklist

BENEFITS

March 12-18, 2017 is Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, which is intended to raise awareness of health and safety issues in the farming industry. Fittingly, WorkSafeBC, AgSafe and the BC Dairy Association recently teamed up to create new dairy farming safety resources. Although the number of time-loss claims in the dairy industry remains stable, from 2006 to 2015, there were six work-related deaths and 126 serious injuries recorded in that industry sector in BC alone.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Use this checklist, which is based on one from WorkSafeBC, for regular safety inspections of your dairy farm (it can also be adapted to other kinds of farms as well as other types of workplaces). Adapt it for your farm operations and the requirements in your jurisdiction’s OHS laws. Use the checklist to identify possible safety hazards, the corrective actions needed to address them and when such actions have been taken.
