Court Says It Lacks Authority to Block RCMP Mandatory Vaccination Policy

Officers who don’t want to get vaccinated are suing the RCMP contending that its mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy violates their constitutional rights. They’ve asked for an interim injunction, i.e., order blocking enforcement of the policy pending resolution of the case. The federal court said no, reasoning that the case was essentially a collective bargaining dispute and that granting the injunction would be tantamount to usurping the process for resolving labour grievances set out in the Canada Labour Code [Wojdan v. Canada (Attorney General), 2021 FC 1341 (CanLII), December 2, 2021].
