Court Fines Companies & Supervisor Almost $95,000 in Tire Shop Fatality

A tire shop worker was run over and killed when he went underneath an oil company’s truck to retrieve a jack and an oil company worker tried to drive the truck away. In January, the court convicted the tire shop, oil company and an oil company supervisor of OHS violations. It acquitted another supervisor. The court recently fined the tire shop $48,750, oil company $43,000 and supervisor $3,000. In addition, charges against the oil company worker who drove the truck were stayed but an administrative penalty of $3,000 was imposed on him [Yukon Tire Centre Inc., North 60 Petro, Frank Taylor and Alan Lelievre, April 10, 2014].
