Company, Shareholder & Employee Fined for Destroying Bank Swallow Nests

More than 40 Bank Swallow nests were destroyed in a sand pit located near Beaumont, Qu‚bec. The sand pits are preferred nesting spots for this species, which is designated as threatened. As a result, a company, a shareholder and an employee pleaded guilty to violating the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994. The court fined the company $8,000, the shareholder $3,000 and the employee $1,000. The court also ordered the company to ensure compliance with the Migratory Birds Regulations in its sand pits and develop a habitat there favourable to Bank Swallow nesting for a period of three years [Bergedac Lt‚e, Govt.
