Company Penalized $200,000 for Improper Disposal of Fish-Processing Waste

Inspections carried out by ECCC enforcement officers revealed potential violations due to the manner in which a company’s workers were disposing of fish-processing waste at facilities in Witless Bay and Port de Grave, NL. As a result, the company pleaded guilty to violations of the disposal-at-sea provisions of CEPA. The court ordered it to pay a total of $200,000 in penalties to the Environmental Damages Fund.
