Company and Owners Found in Contempt of Asbestos-Related Orders

The court ordered two companies and their owners to refrain from exposing ‘persons to asbestos or put persons at risk of exposure to asbestos’ and from violating the Workers Compensation Act and OHS Regulation. The WCB asked the court to hold them in contempt for violating these laws many times, resulting in an additional 51 WCB orders. After hearings, the court found one company and the owners in contempt. It fined the company and one owner $10,000 and the other $5,000 [BC (Workers’ Compensation Board) v. Skylite Building Maintenance Ltd., [2013] BCSC 1666, Nov. 5, 2013].
