Company Fined $100,000 for Young Worker’s Fatal Fall Through Ice

A 21-year-old worker was operating heavy equipment at a Suncor pit that was being reclaimed when his excavator fell through ice into four metres of water. Co-workers were able to pull him out, but he died in the hospital. His employer pleaded guilty to two OHS violations.
