Heat Stress

Heat stress refers to the strain on the body caused by exposure to high temperatures, which can lead to heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke. OHS protocols emphasize the need for risk assessments to identify and manage heat stress hazards in the workplace. Measures include providing adequate hydration, rest breaks in shaded or cool areas, adjusting work schedules to avoid peak heat times, and implementing engineering controls like ventilation and cooling systems. Worker training on recognizing symptoms of heat stress, encouraging acclimatization, and promoting a culture of monitoring and supporting colleagues’ well-being during hot conditions are crucial aspects of OHS strategies to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure a safe working environment.
