Builder Hit with $70,000 Fine after Worker Is Injured in Fall on Stairs

A worker who was installing permanent handrails on a staircase inside a house fell about 5.48 metres to the ground level, sustaining several injuries. An MOL investigation found that a number of guardrails were missing, the injured worker hadn’t been equipped with a fall protection system and there were no danger signs warning workers of hazardous openings. The builder pleaded guilty to failing, as a constructor, to comply with the guardrail requirements under the construction regulations and was fined $70,000 [Tega Developments Inc., Govt.
