Bloodborne Pathogens: Cleaning & Decontamination Schedule

Keeping work areas, surfaces, and equipment that may be contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious materials clean is critical to safeguarding workers against the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Among other things, you should establish and maintain a regular schedule for cleaning and decontamination that lists:
- The work areas and equipment that must be cleaned and decontaminated;
- How often each area or item of equipment must be cleaned and decontaminated;
- The cleaning and disinfecting materials to use;
- The methods of cleaning or decontamination, including the use of plastic wrap or other protective coverings; and
- The person responsible for the particular cleaning and disinfection operation.
