BANNING JEWELRY

Question: Is it legal to ban workers who operate machinery with moving parts from wearing rings, bracelets and other jewelry that could get entangled?

Answer: Not only is banning dangling jewelry permissible, it’s mandatory. Some OHS laws spell out this requirement, others imply it. Although such a ban might interfere with workers’ freedoms, safety takes precedence over freedom of expression in this situation.
