Oct. 6: The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5 to 11): Prevent Home Fires. Cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Saskatchewan has about 724 are residential fires a year. On average, a fire death occurs in the province, with 75% of all fire deaths occurring in the home. Three out of four of these deaths are children.
