May 19: Changes Coming to Construction Industry

The government passed Bill 80, an Act to Amend The Construction Industry Labour Relations Act, 1992. Highlights:
  • Eliminates the government-mandated monopoly that forced unionized construction workers to belong to a government-designated union for their trade or craft
  • Gives employers, who are organized by trade division, the right to choose which employer organization to join
  • Provides clarity on the issue of abandonment
  • Ensures that Saskatchewan’s construction industry labour relations framework is aligned with the Canadian constitution.
