Granite Company Fined $70,000 for Worker’s Death
Workers were unloading granite slabs in bundles held together by wooden braces. One of the braces broke, causing the bundle to tip sideways and pin a worker against a container. He suffered fatal crushing injuries. The company pleaded guilty to a safety offence. The court fined it $70,000 [Impex Granite & Marble Ltd., Govt. News Release, June 26, 2009].
