Food Company Fined $100,000 after Worker’s Fingertip Was Severed

A food company worker was attaching a hose to a pump when his finger got caught in the pump, severing its tip. The pump had been running while he was doing this work. The company pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that the worker adjusted the equipment only when motion that could endanger him was stopped. The court fined it $100,000 [Maple Leaf Consumer Foods Inc., Govt. News Release, Aug. 11, 2010].
