A ski resort worker was riding on a work platform being carried by a ski lift. A raised set of stairs hit the lift terminal. The worker was struck in the head by a piece of broken stair and by the terminal itself. He died from his injuries. The ski resort was convicted of one safety violation, but acquitted of three others. The court noted that there were some reasonably practicable things the resort could have done to ensure the worker’s safety, such as having appropriate warning signs. The resort is scheduled to be sentenced in April [Sunshine Village, The Canadian Press, Feb. 2, 2009].
